Batman and Robin Was Not Good: A Procrastinator's Review

I've enjoyed nearly every television and movie incarnation of Batman and his world. The one remarkable, if not obvious standout is Schumacher's Batman and Robin.

While I wouldn't assume to rank its audience based on their individual feelings of hatred for the "film", I'd like to believe my first experience watching it was more anguishing than most others'. Again, I wouldn't want to assume rank.

During the gray limbo between high school and university, I took on a full time job at a local meat packing plant/abattoir - the morning shift: 6am to 3pm. Two 15-minute breaks. Half an hour for lunch. Long, exhausting days with little time or energy for a substantial social life. An early shift meant early to bed. That summer, I learned to appreciate the smaller amusements a lot more.

I was invited to see Batman and Robin with a group of friends. This was just what I needed. Batman Forever wasn't brilliant, but it had its charm; and while I was unimpressed with the casting for this new one, I still had faith. Plus, I would never pass up the chance to see one of my favourite comic book heroes on the big screen.

The problem: it was a late show. 10:15pm. This meant less sleep and an even more exhausting shift waiting for me the next day. I was forced to accept that.

My friends and I sat through the movie. We immediately headed home once it was over. The time: around 1:30am, with another 30 minutes for the drive home.

The next morning at work, I took my station in the chill room, equipped with rubber apron and hook. I forced myself to stay awake and conserve my strength for the line. Every task became four times harder and ten times more exhausting. I felt like death.

So, yes. Batman and Robin made me sick...literally. 1 star.

I tried to like that movie but even if I thought criminals would be afraid of the bat nipples this movie would have been bad.
